A global perspective on the chrysanthemum - US

Chrysanthemums are flowers that hold deep cultural significance in various parts of the world, including the United States. While they add beauty to gardens and landscapes, they are also intertwined in numerous rituals, traditions, and customs in American society. Let's delve deeper into the meaning of chrysanthemums in the US.

The starting gun is fired in autumn.

As autumn arrives in America, chrysanthemums come to life in the gardens and landscapes of Americans. These flowers bring a touch of color and are used everywhere during the fall months.

The majority of mums are sold in September to decorate homes and brighten landscapes. But also in October, during preparations for Halloween, mums are one of the main features in the streets.

It's noteworthy that in the US, people don't use chrysanthemums to decorate gravestones on All Saints' Day, something that does happens in other cultures. So, there's absolutely no stigma around the "November 1 flower" here.

In cities and communities with rich cultural diversity, chrysanthemum festivals are held to celebrate the beauty and significance of these flowers. Here, people come together to enjoy flower shows, art exhibitions, and traditional rituals that emphasize the deep roots of the chrysanthemum in the culture.

Trending

Today, Americans are playing with the creative idea of matching chrysanthemum colors with the colors of National Football teams. Additionally, we see that people increasingly want to decorate their homes with new and more creative color combinations.

We also notice that mums are being produced more often in large pot sizes. Gen Z and millennials prefer voluminous mums in a nice large pot to place in or around their homes.

Yellow mums are gaining popularity, especially in the South. The color is noticeably chosen more often than the red, orange, or purple colored flowers. What's your favorite color?

Commercial

The United States is at the top when it comes to chrysanthemum sales. This continent sells the most mums, mainly in stores like Home Depot, Lowe's, and Costco.

A large portion of the chrysanthemums, mainly in the South and West, are sold in October when Halloween arrives, leading to demand for mums that bloom late. In the North, there is already an increased demand for chrysanthemums by the end of September, creating a need for early blooming chrysanthemums.

This allows people to enjoy the beautiful chrysanthemums throughout the entire autumn season.

In short, chrysanthemums are not gravestone flowers in the United States. They are carriers of culture, tradition, and meaning, leaving a lasting impression on people's hearts.
