Earth Day

April 22 is Earth Day. On this day we take a moment to think about our planet and life on it. Also at Gediflora we try to take great care of our globe. Read here what initiatives we are undertaking.

Connection to the Mirom heat grid

Gediflora is connected to the Roeselaar heat grid. A heat network is an ecological alternative to individual boilers. The principle is very simple: one large heat plant, MIROM Roeselare's incinerator, brings heat via underground hot water pipes to organizations and residential entities where heat is delivered to the building system. The cooled water flows back to the heat plant, where it is reheated.

Thanks to the heat grid, Gediflora saves more than 653 tons of CO2 per year. This is roughly equivalent to 93 flights “up and down” to Australia.

Solar panels

There are also a lot of solar panels on the roofs of Gediflora. The total electricity demand at Gediflora is 485 MW per year. Thanks to our solar panels, 30% of this total electricity demand is covered. This corresponds to 18 performances of U2, 1168 sauna turns and electricity for 138 families.

So our solar panels generate a 130 MW per year. Thanks to our solar panels, there is an annual CO2 reduction of 81.5 tons, which corresponds to 40 flights there and back to New York.

Water initiatives

We try to use every drop of water as efficiently as possible. Rainwater is used for ebb-and-flow watering, misting through the pouring tree, high-pressure misting net and at the drippers.
