Since 1988 we have already been involved in classic breeding (cross-pollination) of pot chrysanthemums.
Every year we start with about 25.000 seedlings, from which we only keep the best as would-be commercial varieties. The next year these plants are replanted, tested and selected or not for another year of trial. Like this creating and introducing a new cultivar into the market takes four years easily. For our breeding activities we have a especially converted breeding greenhouse of 2.500 square meters, a 2-hectare large experimental garden and a own lab at our disposal.
2. Mutations
When cultivating mutations we get more variation in colours within a species, by using electromagnetic radiation. Spontaneous, natural mutations do often occur in the crop chrysanthemum.
3. Belgian Mums
The Gediflora range of products is marketed under the trade name 'Belgian Mums®'. Unparalleled genetics, unique flowering, spherical shape, flower quality and flexibility are some of the specific features of Belgian Mums®. As growers it is our task to bring only the best cultivated varieties onto the market. Beside their unique features Belgian Mums® also offer a quality guarantee. This is due to our procedure of subjecting all potential varieties to a critical selection test before they are introduced onto the market. In this way new varieties are not withdrawn from the market after 1 year.
Because of their high quality level, Belgian Mums® are varieties which can be grown easily. They are less labour intensive and they guarantee the grower a higher chance of 100% sales.
